Spiker in Volleyball

Volleyball is a sport consisting of six positions. However, out of these six positions, the spiker in volleyball is one of the most important. There are two different types of spikers generally known as left-wing spikers and right-wing spikers, or the outside hitters and the opposite hitters, respectively.

Left wing spiker in volleyball, or outside hitter, both hit and receive the ball along with the libero.

They most often attack the ball and get it to a setter who can put the ball into a specific position on the opposing side. These players play both in the front row and the back row. They are responsible for hitting the ten foot line attacks usually from the middle position in the back row. Being an outside hitter requires an immense amount of agility and athleticism. Because they must be able to move quickly between the friend back rows. They must also be able to pass, attack, block, serve, and play defense. Left-wing spikers often score the most points in the game or assist with passing. Which makes them extremely valuable to the team.

Right wing spiker in volleyball, or opposite hitter, are primarily responsible for scoring the points for a team.

They are not responsible for passing as much and often stand behind the passers. The opposite hitters usually get the most sets in a game and attack the ball after a defensive play to hit the the ball against the block and past it over the net. Opposites must be able to block very well since they play against the opposite hitter of the opposing team. Right-wing spikers are also responsible for hitting from the 10 foot mark in the back right position. In professional volleyball. This position is in the highest demand and these players often get paid the most due to their importance.

Regardless of whether you are a spiker or not. Every position in volleyball in requires a certain set of athletic skills.

Although some may say that the spiking position in volleyball is the most important position. All positions in volleyball are essential to the game. Spikers do prove to be important on both the left and right side of the court. However they are important for scoring an essential for the success of a team and it’s cooperation.
