4. Approaching the Ball Far Too Quickly

The key is proper timing. Approaching the ball earlier or faster than you should could either make your attack hit less likely to be successful or you’ll find it harder to pass the ball to another member of your team.

5. Not Figuring Out Which Ball Actually Falls in Your Line of Responsibility

In most cases, beginners are confused which ball is theirs due to several factors including the speed, sharp angle, loop, or other team member on the way. For starters, if the ball lands on your sixth of the court, it is still your responsibility regardless if you are a mile away from the ball.

6. Not Knowing When and How to Pass

More than getting the ball up, you need to learn how to get the ball up while gently passing to the right spot. When passing, it shouldn’t be too high or too low.

7. Going Under the Net and Contact With the Net

If you need to jump at the net avoid coming down with your feet under the net. Doing this may cause your team to lose points and may out you at risk of straining your ankle or injuring someone else. Also, there are rules that apply regarding making contact with the net and playing the ball near the opponent’s space

8. The Server Foot Fault

While serving the ball, you should not step on the court line or the floor outside the serving zone.

New players often commit attacking errors such as attacking the ball while the game player is back row and attacking a served ball when it is entirely above the top of the net or when it is in the front zone.

I want to learn volleyball this year. I like your point about avoiding contact with the net. I’ll try to avoid this when I jump so I don’t get penalized.
